I have only recently started checking my receipt after someone suggested I should and already I am wishing I had done it sooner. I have found on a number of occasions that I have been charged too much for something or not got an offer that I should have. Shops are usually pretty good at sorting it out if they have charged you wrong and you don’t have to make fuss. It isn’t that shops do this to try and rip people off, it is usually that items have been entered wrong on the system by mistake. Sometimes it can be because of things been placed on the wrong shelves and against the wrong price. If this is the case then you won’t always get the price changed but it is worth checking.

The other reason for checking your receipt is that you will often get offers printed at the bottom of them. This could be for a few pounds off your next shop or a percentage off a particular item. I never even bothered looking for these in the past but they have saved me a bit on most of my shops. You should use them in combination with other coupons you might have found on the Internet.
