Student office software is more widely known now, but I think there are still a lot of people who don’t know about it. Student office software is available from a number of vendors and means you can get software such as Microsoft Office much cheaper, if you are a student. These type of student office software deals are made available so that people who are still studying can get hold of the office software they need relatively cheaply.

I think the idea is that it makes the student office software companies look like they are promoting education. In reality I would imagine they hope to get people used to their brand of office software as soon as possible, so in later life if they have a choice to make they choose their software. I am sure it works in some cases but as Microsoft Office is the suite of choice in almost every office I would imagine students will use that no matter what student office software deals they have taken advantage off.

Student office software isn’t usually cut down in anyway, it is the full office package, just at a cheaper price. There are usually only certain vendors that you can go to for this type of deal, these are ones that are approved by the developer to sell student office software licenses.  They should also ask you to prove you are a student or the parent or guardian of a student, otherwise you won’t be eligible for the discounted office software. This has caused problems in the past for some student office software vendors, as they haven’t performed a reliable check and in reality they have been selling the software to anyone that asked. This happens less now though as they perform more stringent checks before they allow you to but the discounted office software.
