Over the past couple of years broadband has changed a lot in the UK. LLU has really started to take off and is becoming ever more popular. This is Local Loop Unbundling and basically means that a company other than BT has put it’s equipment in your local exchange. You may think this doesn’t sound like much, but it can mean much lower costs. The providers aren’t having to pay the rate BT set so they can be much more flexible with their pricing. This has led to a number of free broadband offers if you are already taking another service from a provider.

It isn’t all good news though as a number of companies don’t seem to be doing a very good job of providing a reliable broadband service. A good website for find the best deals and getting genuine user reviews is Think Broadband formerly ADSL Guide. Here you can pick your new provider with confidence. You may also be limited to the number of companies that operate in your area. LLU requires the provider to place their own equipment in your local exchange so it is taking time for them to get round the exchanges. Also they won’t put their equipment into exchanges that they don’t think will make them a profit. Another good website is Samknows this will tell you which LLU providers are available at your local exchange. Another benefit of LLU is that many companies are offering ADSL2+ which isn’t currently available from BT. This typically allows speeds of upto 24mb compared to the standard 8mb normal ADSL can achieve.

If you aready have a mobile with O2 or TV from Sky you can take advantage of special deals that they offer their customers. There are a number of other companies doing this too. With Sky if you local exchange has their equipment and you are already a Sky TV subscriber you can get free 2mb broadband, pay £5 for 8mb broadband or £10 for 16mb broadband. This is a great deal and most of the reviews of Sky’s LLU offering are pretty good. Lots of companies have similar cheap offers but be sure to check out the reviews on the sites above before committing. You should also make sure you are aware of any tie ins that may keep you with the same company for a year or longer.

In summary if you are paying more than £20 for upto 8mb broadband you can probably find a better deal elsewhere. With increased speed and a lower cost. You should check with your TV or mobile provider to see if they offer any deals and if they don’t you should consider moving to one that does.

One of the most popular ways of earning cash on the Internet is to start a money making website. The most common way people do this is to start a niche website. The key to making this work is to find a niche which has a big enough market to make some money but isn’t saturated with sites already. The quickest way to fail at this kind of project is to try and start a site in a saturated area.

You don’t have to be an expert in a subject to start a website about it but if you are knowledgeable in a particular area this would obviously be a candidate. Just make sure it meets the other requirements too. If you pick a subject that you don’t know much about make sure there is somewhere you can research it before starting the website.

When you first start the site you have to make sure you can add a lot of relevant content, the quicker you can do this the more likely you are to start making money. You also need to start driving traffic to your site. Search engines are the easiest way of doing this. Getting a good ranking can be difficult though. You need to start getting some quality links to your site. This can be achieved by writing quality articles that other people will want to link to.

Once you have some some traffic you can start making money. The most common way of doing this is to display adverts on your site. Take a look at this ProBlogger article for a good list of some of the options. Don’t expect to make money straight away but stick at it and as your traffic builds you will start to make more. The key is to keep writing quality content to bring more and more visitors.

After your first site is starting to make money you can find yourself another niche and build another one. This should be easier due to the knowledge you have acquired from the first one. What is key though is to make sure you don’t forget your first site as the visitors will stop coming if you don’t keep adding content. You can keep building sites until you are at a level you feel comfortable with and have the time to keep them all updated.

An alternative route is to use a service such as “Build A Niche Store” (BANS) to help you build a site that makes money through the eBay affiliate system. There is an initial set-up cost but it does mean you can get lots of sites up and running quickly. You will still have to the work to get traffic though. I have seen a number of places recommending BANS but I haven’t used it myself. If you think it is right for you then make sure you research fully before parting with any money. If you have used it before then add a comment below with your opinions.

Remember the most important part of setting up a niche site is finding the right niche so spend a lot of time on this and choose carefully.

No matter what you are looking for it is always wise to use comparison sites. Basically what they do is take the product or service you are looking for and hunt out the best prices. One site that covers a wide range of products and services is Money Supermarket, where you can find everything from shoes to mortgages.

These sites are particularly useful for products where you know exactly what you are after and just want to find out the best place to get it from. They aren’t so good if you just know that you want a DVD player for example but not which one. When it comes to services they are very good as you just enter your relevant details, be if for a loan, mortgage, credit card or to change your gas or electricity supplier and it goes away and brings back the best deals. For changing Gas and Electricity suppliers in particular you can even earn some cash back on top of the savings you make.

These sites work like many others in that they often take a small percentage of the value of the sale if you make purchase from one of the merchants they recommend. This doesn’t effect you as you still pay the same price as if you had found it yourself. If you aren’t already using a comparison site you could be missing out, so start now!

Here is a great idea for saving lots of money, get cashback for buying stuff. There are a number of websites available that provide this service. The way it works is that companies pay a commission to websites who send them visitors that end up buying goods or services. For example if you click on a link on a website that sends you to a store that you end up buying a TV from the first site will often get paid a commission for this. The way cashback sites work is that rather than keeping this for themselves they pass it on to you the consumer. You may be wondering what they get from this? Different sites do different things, some of them take a percentage of each commission and some of them charge a monthly fee. One of the most popular sites is Quidco that is regularly used as it simply takes £5 of the money you save ever year. If you don’t make anything then they don’t take anything, and the charge will usually work out less than if they took a percentage each time. This type of site is really good as for some things such as car insurance you can get up to £100 back. So what are you waiting for, get signed up to one today!

The web is full of money saving resources, I have a few favourites that I visit nearly every day. The first is HotUkDeals where you can find offers for everything from laptops to cheese. They are posted by users so you will always find new deals to look at. If you are looking at buying anything then be sure to check out this site first to see if they can save you some cash.

The next site is Money Saving Expert which is run by Martin Lewis and is the ultimate resource for making the most of your money. You can find guides on various ways you can save money and the forum is full of personal experiences and tips on saving or making money.

If you are looking at buying a flight then you must take a look at SkyScanner which searches through all of the budget airlines to bring you the cheapest prices possible. If you are flexible on when and where you want to go you can get a list of the prices to different airports on different days. This allows you to pick out the best deal and it will then even take you to the airlines own site and fill in all the flight details so you are ready to purchase it. So next time you fancy a trip to Prague for a quick beer you know where to go!
